Jeng Halili

JENG HALILI, a former professional ballerina with a masters degree in dance from England, has been teaching dance for over 18 years.  She is currently on the dance faculty of 2 community colleges here in Orange County.

She has an MA Dance Studies degree from University of Surrey, England and a BA Humanities degree from the University of the Philippines where she graduated Magna Cum Laude.  A consistent honor student, she was a merit scholar at Philippine High School for the Arts where she was awarded Salutatorian and Most Outstanding in Dance.  She trained in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, Chinese, Indonesian, Polynesian, and Philippine dances.

During her career as a professional ballet and modern dancer, Miss Halili performed in China, France, Hong Kong, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Venezuela, United Kingdom, and US.  She was a member of Ballet Philippines and of the Philippine dance delegation to international events.   Among the many internationally-renowned dancers she has performed with are Fernando Bujones, Patrick Bissell, Leslie Brown, Joyce Cuoco, Martin Van Hamel, Natalia Makarova, Eleanor D'Antuono, and Yoko Morishita.  She also performed with the Central Ballet of China in Beijing.  She has been featured in lead roles in classics such as Don Quixote, Giselle, La Gitana, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty and in modern pieces Ang Sultan, Dabaw, Pagsamba, among many others.

She teaches all levels of ballet, lyrical, and modern—from students in private dance studios to professional performers of dance companies to teachers of dance schools.  She was Co- Artistic Director of HC School of Dance and of Quezon City Ballet, dance lecturer at University of the Philippines and at Philippine High School for the Arts, and master teacher in various student-intensives and teacher-training workshops.  Recently, she was head of the Board of Judges of the NAMCYA Ballet Competition.

Miss Halili teaches with a strong passion for dance and a genuine concern for the student.  She believes that maximum learning occurs in a positive environment so she teaches proper technique in a fun way.  Her ultimate aim is for her students to experience the joy of dancing and have an increased love for dance while developing the valuable life skills that dance training helps instill — discipline, determination, cooperation and belief in self.
